How to wash and care for cashmere

Cashmere requires gentle handling, but it's more resilient than its reputation suggests. A few consistent habits are enough to keep it in excellent condition for years.

• Hand wash in cold water with a gentle detergent, no bleach or enzymes. For machine washing, check the care label first and use the wool or hand wash cycle only
• Never wring: roll in two dry towels and press gently to remove excess water without distorting the knit
• Lay flat to dry on a rack, away from heat sources and direct sunlight
• Never tumble dry: heat permanently felts and shrinks cashmere fibres
• Some pilling is normal, especially in areas of friction: remove gently with a wool comb
